Keeping Quiet

Novel connection. When Richie punches Russell in the face, his mother wants to call the principal, however, Russell wants to keep quiet about the whole incident. Russell’s mom’s response was, “I’m not doing nothing. If one adult did this to another, he'd be in jail. Why should it be different for kids?” (p. 45)

Blog Question: Should kids solve their own problems or should adults/parents get involved? Explain.

I think kids should
solve their own problems because they won't have anyone to solve their problems when they grow up except them so its good practice for them. In the book Russell, Elliot, and Catalina take matters into their own hands and officially start the 'The Revealers' (Page 101). Russell, Elliot, and Catalina all have their own stories. Catalina and Elliot publish them and soon a lot of people catch on (Elliot's story on page 91, Catalina on page 70). It becomes this big thing and soon the teachers discover it but do nothing about it (page 107). By doing this they are taking matters into their own hands and making a difference. Parents aren't always there for them and they are growing up by doing this. They no longer have a safety net and are helping themselves and the other kids. Even though it has no effect at the beginning, for the kids it must be really good to get it off their chest and tell somebody. That's why kids should solve their problems by themselves. If I was Catalina I would do the blog but I would also stand up for myself.
